Alonzo on Extended Care

I am an Alcoholic, my name is Alonzo C. After commencing from the program at Discovery Place, I realized I had gained much knowledge about myself and about how to stay sober by living the principals I had learned in my everyday life. I had a good foundation of understanding but I also wanted to be surer about my abilities to apply these principals to everyday life. Discovery Place offered me an opportunity to stay involved with their extended care program.

The extended care program was an excellent capstone for my recovery process at Discovery Place. I learned much more about the 12 steps and how to incorporate them into my life away from the Spiritual Retreat. Although I was still under direct guidance from Discovery Place this allowed me the opportunity to be more of a member of the community, go to outside meetings, and help the new guests get settled in and through their orientation. This perspective I feel was a vital portion of my recovery. We learned more about the importance of service work by volunteering at other organizations. I highly recommend to anyone serious about their recovery to take part in this extended care program. My knowledge of the 12 step program of recovery and my knowledge of myself greatly increased while I stayed actively involved in Extended Care.
