My name is Billy Walker. My sobriety date is January 9, 2006. I started drinking when I was 18 years old and drank for 29 years. I had a short career in the hotel industry, then moved to printing for twenty plus years. I was introduced to the 12 step program of AA in 2002 after losing a very profitable business. My wife and family thought it would be best. It took nine times through treatment, losing my family, and everything else that was close to me for me to realize that I could only get sober for myself. I was living in my car and gave up just long enough for me to realize that things weren't working out my way. I checked into Discovery Place for the second time in January of 2006. As the book says, " Jails, institutions, or death," one was next for me. Today God has blessed me with being able to be around my family who I thought I would never see again, and have been shown I how I can be of service to others. I get to work around addicts and alcoholics like myself everyday. I get to see my disease everyday and it reminds me that God is doing for me what I cannot do for myself. I owe my life to Discovery Place and the people I work with.
