Every Friday evening you will enjoy Friday Night /Family which is a fun evening of community dinner, AA Meetings, Al-Anon meetings and outside visitors. On weekends, you will have a modified schedule that includes special programs and community recreation as well as family visitation on Sundays from 2pm till 4pm for guests who have been on property for at least 7 days. Weekend sports and approved movies are also available for community viewing at appropriate times. Over the course of your stay, you will meet many other people in recovery who you will get to know quite well. These men will support you in your effort to recover from drug and alcohol addiction.

We don’t. When Discovery Place began, our founders made a deliberate choice to make it a spiritual retreat, not a medical facility that relied on insurance companies to pay the bills.
Here are some reasons:

• We believe that 30 days is the minimum time needed to get a good start on a sober life. Insurance companies often refuse to pay for 30 days.

• We believe that the spiritual program of Alcoholics Anonymous is more effective than the medical/therapeutic model used by medical facilities. We have the statistics to prove it. Over 74% of the men who thoroughly participate in Discovery Place programs stay sober. This is a much better rate than traditional treatment centers that take insurance.

• By completing the full 30 day program with their peers here at Discovery Place, our guests form meaningful friendships that will support them as they head out into the world.

• Many insurance companies only pay for one stay at a treatment center. If a man has already used insurance once for this purpose, he may not be able to use it again. We have found that men who invest their own time and money into their sobriety get better results. We do offer financing with Serenity Loans as well as financial aid for men who need help.

• Discovery Place provides privacy and confidentiality about our guests alcohol and/or drug problem that they might not get if they use employer provided insurance.

Our maximum capacity is 24 men.

18 and older. The average age of our guests is 25 years old, but you will meet men of all ages.

  • Once you have been here for 7 days, you will be allowed visits from friends and family. On Friday nights we have our "Friends and Family Night" which starts at 5:00pm. We serve dinner from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. At 7:00pm family members go to a family meeting led by our Family Director or a qualified volunteer. On Sundays we have visitation from 2:00pm till 4:00pm. Minor children are allowed.
  • Phone calls are handled on a case by case basis. Generally speaking, guests are allowed to use the phone once or twice a week during regular business hours.

Although we have ample facilities and grounds, we only have between 18 and 24 guests in our  30 day program and 5-8 guests in our Extended Stay program at any given time. We believe small groups and personal attention produce the best result. Our 30 day program guests stay at our 17 acre Burns campus. Our Extended Stay guests stay at our 7 acre Dickson campus.

2 to 3 men share a comfortable, large sleeping room and modern bath. There are many sitting areas and quiet lounges throughout the facility.
