INSIDE THE FAMILY GROUP MAY 2008 Here we are on Friday Evenings at Discovery Place meeting to support one another as a family group. We invite each of you to join us. We are the ones who live or have lived with the problems of alcoholism and drug addiction. We, too, were lonely and frustrated but in the family group we discover that no situation is really hopeless. It is possible to find contentment and even happiness whether the alcoholic/addict is or is not still drinking or using. The family program is based on the Twelve Steps of Al-Anon which was adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous. We try, little by little, one day at a time, to apply to our lives the principles as found in the Twelve Steps. We find comfort in the words of The Serenity Prayer: God, Grant Me the Serenity To Accept the Things I cannot Change; the Courage to Change the Things That I can; and the Wisdom to Know the Difference We urge you to try our Family Program. It has helped many of us find solutions that lead to Serenity (calmness & peace). So much depends on our own attitudes. We learn to place our problems in true perspective. We find all the hurt, shame and pain surrounding alcoholism and drug addiction loses its power to dominate our thoughts and lives. We accomplish this by loving interchange with each other and by practicing the 12 steps ourselves. The Family Group is not affiliated with Al-Anon but does use some Al-Anon literature. We learn the "3-C’s": Didn’t Cause it Can’t Control it; Can’t Cure it. Come join us at 7:00 PM on Friday’s at Discovery Place. |
